Join in community with women of similar experience of loss, stage of life, and desire to connect with others while processing grief related to struggles and stresses of loving someone with dementia.
You may have felt confused about your grief feelings while your loved one is still living. This group will help you and support you to comprehend what’s going on within you during “anticipatory grief” (when someone we love is declining but still alive) and connect with others who understand beyond words. It’s not just the grief—we are coping with life stress, social media’s glaring triggering glamour, work, and we often provide care that is emotional, physical, financial, organizational, and more. Many women are sandwiched between the needs of dependent children and dependent loved ones. And… it’s devastating to watch. It is so, so hard to bear witness to dementia in someone you know and love.
This 4 week therapy group is a deep inhale, deep exhale. This is a space to turn your attention to your own experience, at least temporarily, to support your life and wellbeing as a whole. Join us to include yourself in your own compassion and your own care.
In our space you receive connection, relevant information, and space to practice and build inner skills relevant to coping with the stressors of loving and caring for someone with dementia. Women who attend are supported to take care of themselves from the inside-out and build functional, self-compassionate, nervous-system supportive wellbeing. In this group, you will gain connection into caring community of women who can understand what you are experiencing and feeling, with whom you can connect and share support long after group is over.
In this women’s grief group, we explore, practice, and process:
What is anticipatory grief, and what to do in the midst of it
What are secondary losses: non-death losses related to what was, what was expected, and what could or should be
Grief models beyond the 5 stage model, and how to consider which model works for your grief & your life in an intentional and actionable way
How to hold mortality anxiety & fear of dementia as you bear witness to someone losing their cognitive, emotional, or memory faculties
Nuanced mental health aspects of loving & caring for someone with dementia and brain changes
