Women's Grief Group: Coping with Post-Cancer Struggles
Join in community with women of similar experience, stage of life, and desire to connect with others while learning about grief related to struggles and stresses of life after cancer treatment including recurrence anxiety, medical menopause, lingering symptoms, and the loss of what was.
This is a 4 week women’s grief group that is intentionally compassionate in its tone and pace. It is a hybrid blend of peer support and supportive education about the loss of normalcy, what was expected, and feeling safe that is often lost and grieved by women diagnosed with cancer in the midst of 20’s, 30’s, 40’s life. We honor that as much as knowledge can empower, you already have a deluge of medical information. This women’s grief group provides information relevant to taking excellent, self-compassionate care of yourself without squelching feelings or avoiding the word “grief”. This group is not therapy and does not provide therapeutic services or processing—this group provides supportive information and connection into caring community with women who can understand what you are experiencing and feeling.
This grief group will help you to comprehend what’s going on within you in a phase when many women experience others moving on around them. This is a group to connect with women who understand. This is a space to turn your attention to your own experience, at least temporarily, to support your life and wellbeing as a whole, because it all changes after treatment. Join us to include yourself in your own compassion and your own care.
In this women’s grief group, we discuss:
What are ambiguous losses in and after cancer treatment in 20’s, 30’s, 40’s life
What are secondary losses: non-death losses related to what was, what was expected, and what could or should be
Grief models beyond the 5 stage model, and how to consider which model works for your grief & your life in an intentional, functional, actionable way
How to hold mortality anxiety & recurrence anxiety as you move towards your best whole-person health
Grief education groups at Voyager intentionally do not include:
Therapy or therapeutic processing
Trauma processing
This intentional exclusion allows us to provide inclusion of women grieving the loss before the loss, located anywhere. By providing relevant, informed education and peer support, this group centralizes peer-to-peer connection, rather than therapeutic relationship, as the heartfelt support. We support women to create these connections through structured information exchange throughout the group, as well as an opt-in information exchange at the end of the group as a whole. We hope you will leave this group feeling clarity, empowerment, validation, self-compassion, and a phone full of texts and video chats with women to continue walking with you as life evolves post-treatment.
Time: 5:30pm - 6:30pm EST
Location: Online, Zoom link provided upon registration
Meets Weekly Starting: Monday, August 4th, 2025
End date: Monday, August 25th, 2025
Register your spot in the virtual room. We are sending you a lot of care & hope for soft moments on hard days.
