Clinical services have a cost. Sometimes, that cost is unclear, either in numbers-and-cents or in purpose. At Voyager Counseling, our fees are clear, purposeful, and always available to be discussed without avoidance, pressure, or coercion.

The direct pay fee for individual therapy is $160. The advantages of direct pay for individual therapy include:

• Truly whole-person mental health care, without any potentially pathologizing diagnostic code assigned to clients or appointment information

• Enhanced confidentiality due to no risk for insurance audit and no client information or diagnostic information sent to insurance companies

• No possibility for errors on behalf of insurance or billing companies in estimating payments or providing payments

• No possibility of “clawback” (when an insurance company demands money back from services previously rendered).

However, $160 per week is prohibitively expensive for many families. It is always our stance to try to avoid preventable harm in the process of providing excellent care. Olga Montgomery, LCSW, is in network with most major commercial insurers. Our committed action at Voyager Counseling for insurance use includes:

• Using an insurance billing program, Headway, only for billing

• Using a separate electronic health record for all clients, insurance and direct pay

• Assigning a diagnosis of least potential stigma and harm that is accurate to DSM-5-TR

• Maintaining an open line of communication about session cost estimate and any communication between insurance companies, billers, and you

The direct pay fee for couples therapy is $190. We do not offer insurance coverage or out of network “Superbills” for couples therapy. This is because both require identifying a "primary patient” and assigning a diagnostic code to indicate “medical necessity”. Both of these administrative actions run counter to providing expert, radically compassionate grief therapy to couples who are in the storm of grieving life-altering loss.

The same advantages for direct pay individual therapy apply for couples.

Because of the volume and specificity of the administrative burden required by all federal insurers, we do not accept Medicare, Medicaid, or Tricare.
